“RCB was a great experience but there was no real emotional connect there unlike in CSK,” Shane Watson

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was one of the best players to have played in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He represented three franchises in his glorious career. The right-hander had a sensational time with Rajasthan Royals, where he consistently scored runs and picked wickets.

After representing Rajasthan Royals for 8 long years, the batter was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, he had a horrendous time with them as he just managed 250 runs in 24 matches in IPL 2016 and IPL 2017.

The two poor seasons in the IPL hampered his confidence but he was brought by Chennai Super Kings in 2018. Watson showed his class for the team in the very first season as he guided them to the title victory, smashing a century in the final.

He was a consistent performer in the IPL 2019 as well with his famous knock coming in the final against Mumbai Indians. Despite being injured, he continued fighting and took his side close to the target but eventually fell short of 1 run.

Watson called time on his career after the 2020 edition. Overall, in 145 matches, he amassed 3874 runs with 4 centuries and 22 half-centuries including the best score of 117* at a strike rate of 137.91. He also picked 92 wickets in the league.

After retiring, he made a bold statement and said: “RCB was a great experience but there was no real emotional connect there unlike in CSK.”
