CSA T20 League: 3 England players who might play for CSK owned Johannesburg franchise

It has been reported that about 10 to 12 England players have put forward their names for CSA T20 league

Some top players around the world are starting to sign up for the CSA T20 league, as the IPL owners have bought the rights of all six franchises in the league.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is also one of the six IPL teams which have bought the franchise ownership rights in the CSA league and they have bought the franchise which is based in the South African capital of Johannesburg.

In the list of the players who have reportedly signed up for the CSA T20 league, there are about 10 to 12 players from England and that includes some of the reputed names in English cricket.

Here are the 3 England players who might play for the CSK owned franchise in the CSA T20 league –

Jason Roy

CSK has always looked for an explosive overseas opener even in the IPL and they are unlikely to change their template of team construction in the South African league. Jason Roy is one of those England players whom CSK might want to sign for their Johannesburg franchise and they would probably pair him up with a local South African opener, as they have been doing in the IPL.

Roy has struggled a bit with his form lately in international cricket, but there is no denying the fact that he has got the pedigree of a quality opener in T20 cricket.

Sam Curran

Sam Curran’s association with CSK is old, as he was a part of the franchise for two seasons in 2020 and 2021 and had quickly established himself as a key player of the franchise. The left hander had to withdraw his name from IPL 2022 mega auction because of his lower back injury, but if he was there in the auction, CSK was expected to go after him again.

With reports circulating that Sam Curran has also signed up for CSA T20 league, the chances are high that he will be on CSK’s radar.

Eoin Morgan

It’s still unclear whether BCCI will allow the non-centrally contracted Indian players to feature in the South African league or not. If it doesn’t happen, CSK will have to look for an astute captain for their Johannesburg franchise and one of the options that they will have for captaincy is Eoin Morgan, who is a World Cup winning captain.

Since Morgan is recently retired from international cricket, he is expected to be available for full season of the CSA league. However, Morgan’s batting form in international and franchise cricket in the last one year or so has been a bit of a concern.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
