Anil Kumble explains why KL Rahul is not keeping wickets for Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab is the only team in IPL 2020 which has fielded three different wicket-keepers in three games and that clearly indicates that they don’t know what their best XI is.

However, the head coach of Kings XI Punjab, Anil Kumble, still tried to provide a logical explanation why the keepers have been getting changed by the management so frequently.

According to Kumble, the captain KL Rahul, who had been keeping wickets at the start of the season, felt that he needed a break from wicket-keeping after a few games which was the reason why the wicket-keeping gloves were given to Nicholas Pooran in the game against CSK.

Prabhsimran Singh kept wickets for Kings XI Punjab against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Pooran would have kept the wickets again if Chris Gayle had played in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but because of the fact that Gayle was sick, the team management decided to hand a playing opportunity to the young Prabhsimran Singh.

Since Prabhsimran is a specialist wicket-keeper batsman, it was natural for him to keep once he got into the XI and that’s why Pooran and Rahul both were in the field, while Prabhsimran took the gloves against SRH.

Kings XI Punjab suffered their 5th defeat in the tournament as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad and they continue to stay right down the bottom of the table at no. 8.

Now going ahead from here, almost every game is a must-win for Punjab, but given their form and approach this season, it doesn’t seem as if they will be able to make the playoffs.

However, it has happened in IPL before that a team has stitched 6 or 7 wins in a row and has qualified for the playoffs from a nearly impossible scenario. So, nothing can be ruled out completely.

Meanwhile, the Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul is being criticized a lot for not playing his natural game in IPL 2020 and for trying to anchor the innings despite having all the shots in the book.

Rahul is currently the highest run scorer in IPL 2020, but the strike-rates in most of his innings have not been as high as his fans were expecting.
