The second ODI between India and New Zealand will be played on 21st January.

India is currently locking horns with New Zealand in the three-match ODI series. The first game was a nail-biter that went down the wire and saw both teams fighting till the very end. But Men in Blue held their nerves well and bagged the game by 12 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

The focus now shifts towards the second and 21st of January in Raipur. Although India clinched the game, but there were a few areas of concern for them, which they would want to rectify in the upcoming game. Let’s take a look at 2 changes that India might make for the second ODI against New Zealand.

Umran Malik

Umran Malik might be in contention to play the second game in place of Shardul Thakur. The pacer went for thrashing in the first game as he conceded 54 runs and it’s fair to say that he looked off colours. His poor bowling performance was one of the main reasons behind New Zealand getting close to the target. Although he took the wicket of Bracewell in the end, he was expensive. Umran on the other hand has done a staggering job whenever he got a chance. He ended the Sri Lanka series as the second-highest wicket-taker and could be back in the mix.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal could also be in contention to play the second game against New Zealand in place of Mohammad Shami. The pacer didn’t have a good game in the first ODI as he went for a lot of runs. With him likely to play a massive role in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and bowl some tough overs, the team can look to rest him and play Chahal in his place of him. Hardik Pandya’s presence in the side could well be the reason India might get tempted to play both wrist spinners. Both Chahal and Kuldeep have done reasonably well when they played together and the second game against New Zealand could well be another chance of seeing them bowling in tandem.
