Munaf Patel Heartbroken After Virat’s Decision To Step Down As T20i Captain

The captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli made a huge announcement via social media yesterday, informing all the fans across the cricket world that he will no longer continue to lead to the Indian cricket team in the T20I format of the sport once the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is over. After seeing the statement issued by Virat, former Indian fast bowler and 2011 Cricket World Cup winner Munaf Patel was left heartbroken.

Virat Kohli mentioned in his statement that workload management was the primary reason why he has decided to step down as the captain of the Indian cricket team only in the T20I format. He will continue working as the captain of the team in the ODI and Test formats. The BCCI is yet to announce who will be the next captain, but many fans feel it will be Rohit Sharma.

How Munaf Patel reacted to the statement from Virat Kohli

As mentioned ahead, former Indian fast bowler, Munaf Patel, who played for Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League was sad after knowing that Virat Kohli was no longer going to lead India in the T20I format after the T20 World Cup is in the history books. Munaf quoted the tweet from Virat and wrote:

Arriving at this decision took a lot of time: Virat Kohli

In the long statement issued by Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket team captain thanked the team management, support staff, players and fans for their support. He also added that it was hard for him to make this decision and it took a lot of time.

“Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time. After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October,” Virat Kohli wrote.
