The Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis has revealed that he had a short session with MS Dhoni during the recent second leg of the IPL, and he talked to him over a range of cricketing topics.
According to Stoinis, one of the things that MS Dhoni told him was that one should work on his weakness only till the time it doesn’t affect his strength. Sometimes, what happens with some of the cricketers is they are so focused on working on their weaknesses that they forget what their strength is. For example – Some players are not that good against short balls and in order to improve themselves on that front, they start missing full balls and that affects their overall game.
Stoinis also said that Dhoni talked to him about the game situations and told him that his approach towards certain innings, whether batting first or second, depends on the fact how many batsmen are behind him in the line-up because that determines how much value there is on his wicket.
Marcus Stoinis said that MS Dhoni was very honest with him during that short session
Stoinis was speaking exclusively to the English podcast Grade Cricketer where he said that Dhoni understood him very well as a batsman, where he likes to play his shots and what his strengths are, and he even told him when CSK bowled to him, what kind of fields he tried to set for him.
“He (Dhoni) was actually very honest with me. He understood me very well and he sort of said how CSK would try to bowl to me and how he tried to set the fields for me,” Stoinis said.
Dhoni has been one of the most successful captains in the history of white-ball cricket, as he has captained his team to title triumphs in every single major competition that is there to be won, either at the international level or the IPL.
Even recently, Dhoni won the IPL title for the 4th time as CSK captain as the men in yellow beat the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of IPL 2021 played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
