3 players who could replace David Warner as the next ODI opener of Australia

Ahead of his final Test, David Warner also announced his ODI retirement. He did mention that he can make a comeback if Australia needs him for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Australia has a lot of options at the top of the order. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who could replace David Warner as the next ODI opener of Australia.

1) Mitchell Marsh

In recent months, Mitchell Marsh has opened with Travis Head in the ODI format. Hence, he would be the obvious choice to come in at the top of the order.

Marsh is an aggressive cricketer and he would be the perfect partner for Travis Head. The duo would be dangerous for any opposition.

2) Josh Inglis

Josh Inglis has silently made himself an important part of the Australian setup. It would not be a surprise if he makes the climb to the top of the order with Marsh remaining at No.3.

If Australia has to prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup, using Inglis as one of the openers will be a wise choice. They would then not have to worry about the wicket-keeper slot, as well. Hence, he is on this list.

3) Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is one of the players who could replace David Warner as the next ODI opener of Australia. One of the out-of-the-box options would be to promote Marnus as an opener. Since he has some struggles against spin, playing at the top could be useful for him.

Having both Steve Smith and Marnus in the middle-order might not help Australia. Hence, Marnus could be used as an opener. He would be a good complement for Travis Head, as well. If Australia is looking at a captain for the future, they can invest in Marnus. They could start that by giving him more responsibility as an opener.
