On an emotional day for India, the men’s hockey team started the day off with an exciting 5-4 win against Germany to win the Bronze medal. Captain Manpreet Singh’s men made a tremendous comeback after being 3-1 down, the team’s never-give-up attitude was what kept them going which ended the country’s 41-year medal drought in the sport, adding their 12th hockey medal to their feat. Team India’s coach, Graham Reid said that his side had made a lot of sacrifices over the last two years to win an Olympic medal and that this win meant a lot to his team and the country.
Women on the brink of making history
The women’s hockey team will be facing Great Britain with a bronze medal on the line. The Indian team shocked the world by beating Australia in the quarter-finals, no one saw it coming, especially after the kind of start they had initially in the tournament. India narrowly lost to Argentina in the semi-finals, but all eyes will be on them as they will be gunning for bronze and create history.
Deepak Punia misses on a medal by a whisker
Wrestler Deepak Punia came very close to winning a bronze medal for the nation after leading the entire bout except for the last 10 seconds where the San Marino opponent grabbed a decisive two-pointer, thus, ruling out any chance for Deepak to make a comeback.
Ravi Kumar Dahiya settles for Silver
After making the whole country proud by ensuring a medal yesterday, Wrestler Ravi Kumar was up against Russia’s Zavur Yuguev for the Gold Medal match. After starting slowly, the Indian steadily gained momentum and came close to winning the gold but settled for silver after he lost by a 4-7 margin. He could not break his opponent’s strong defence, his opponent, a two-time World Champion eventually came out on top.
