Meet the cricketer who is on the verge of representing the third country in the World Cup

Andri Berenger of Sri Lanka has already played for Sri Lanka U19 and UAE national team in the past

Representing one country in international cricket is a lifetime dream of many cricketers and for some, it just remains a dream throughout their careers, but here is the story of a cricketer who didn’t just play international cricket for one team, he is on the verge of now representing the third country at the international level.

And what’s interesting is that the two countries this cricketer has played for in the past, he has represented them in the World Cup and World Cup qualifiers. We are talking about Andri Berenger who is a Sri Lankan cricketer, but his journey as an international cricketer wasn’t just limited to Sri Lanka. He represented the Sri Lankan national team in U19 cricket and then moved out of Sri Lanka to explore further opportunities.

Berenger’s next destination was Dubai where he performed in the domestic circuit of the UAE and after getting eligible to play for the UAE in international cricket, he got a break in their national team as a wicketkeeper-batsman. However, now Berenger is on the cusp of breaking into another national team.

Berenger is now eligible to be picked in the Qatar national team

A couple of years back, the right-handed wicketkeeper batsman who is 30 years of age at the moment, moved to Qatar’s domestic circuit and given the kind of potential he has, both with the bat and the gloves, it’s not a surprise that he has impressed the Qatari selectors as well with his performances.

If nothing goes drastically wrong from here, then Andri Berenger will probably represent Qatar in the World Cup qualifiers for the next T20 World Cup from the Asian group.

With cricket on the rise in the Middle East and plenty of opportunities opening up for talented cricketers from the subcontinent countries, there will be a lot of migration in the next few years and a lot of subcontinent cricketers will be seen playing for the international teams of Middle East countries.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
