The 5-time champions of the IPL, Mumbai Indians, have given promotion to their head coach Mahela Jayawardene and director of cricket Zaheer Khan and these two former cricketers are now named as the new global head of performance and global head of cricket development of the franchise respectively.
The new job profile of Mahela Jayawardene makes him the boss of all the coaches that MI will appoint for their original and sister franchises worldwide. MI currently has a franchise in South Africa which is named MI Capetown and a franchise in UAE which is named MI Emirates, apart from their original franchise in the IPL which is Mumbai Indians.
MI is reportedly planning to name Mark Boucher as the head coach of MI Capetown, as Boucher has recently announced that he will step down as the head coach of South Africa’s national cricket team after this year’s T20 World Cup.
MI will then appoint new head coaches for MI Emirates and Mumbai Indians in the IPL as well and all the coaches will have to report to Mahela Jayawardene, who will be in charge of making decisions on the overall performance of MI franchises in the leagues worldwide.

It will be interesting to see who becomes the new head coach of Mumbai Indians now that Mahela Jayawardene has been given a promotion and he will no longer be the head coach of the team in the IPL. The appointment of another high profile name as the head coach of Mumbai Indians in the IPL can’t be ruled out.
