RCB’s auction performance evokes mixed reactions
RCB was one of the teams that had a decent purse for the event. Many predicted that the management would not commit the mistake of overspending on players like they have been doing so far. However, the franchise opted for a similar tactic at the event.
While the purchase of Faf du Plessis and Harshal Patel was still understandable, spending more than INR 10 Cr for Wanindu Hasaranga was not received well by many. They then spent higher than INR 7 Cr for Josh Hazlewood, who has only been a T20 revelation in recent years.
The franchise has opted for fewer youngsters and has gone ahead with experienced campaigners such as Dinesh Karthik and Faf du Plessis. RCB was focussing on youngsters in recent years and the sudden change in strategy surprised the fans.

Meanwhile, RCB will have a core batting line-up comprising Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell. Hence, the fans have given an acronym of “KGF” for Kohli, Glenn and Faf. While the batting line-up looks terrific, so does the short form.
Incidentally, KGF is a cult movie franchise from the Kannada Film Industry. The fans were thrilled that they were able to co-relate a film made in their backyard to the franchise based out of the city of Bengaluru.
