Rishabh Pant dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers in the recently-concluded WTC series between India and Sri Lanka. The wicket-keeper batter got a chance to bat slightly higher in the batting order. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and scored 185 runs in the series.
Pant missed out on a well-deserved century in the first match at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Then in Bengaluru, he played two quick-fire knocks. He broke the record for the fastest Test fifty by an Indian in the second innings.
Fans were delighted with Rishabh Pant’s performances. For the first time in a long time, India played a Test series without Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh were the number three and the number five batters in the veteran players’ absence.
Vihari showed solidarity in the number three spot. On the other side, Pant played with aggression in the number five position. Speaking at the post-match presentation after winning the Man of the Series award, Pant said:
“As a cricketer you want to evolve. In the past, I have made a few mistakes, but I want to keep improving. My mindset is not the same, but it was a difficult pitch and I decided I had to attack the bowling early on.”
Rishabh Pant will now captain the Delhi Capitals team in IPL 2022
The Indian cricket team’s home season has ended after the big win against Sri Lanka. India remained undefeated in 2021-22 home season. They registered series wins over New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Now, all the Indian stars will be in action in IPL 2022, where Pant will captain the Delhi Capitals team. DC have never won the IPL title despite being a part of the tournament since the first season. It will be interesting to see if that drought ends in 2022.
