Pat Cummins has made it clear that he is not looking to take over as Australia’s white-ball captain at this stage, as he is of the belief that there should be different captains for red ball and white ball cricket for Australia.
Cummins is one of those Australian players who are an absolute certainty in the playing XI in all three formats of the game, and it’s being discussed if the time is right to put him in charge as captain in all three formats, particularly with the question marks over the recent batting form of Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch.
But, Australia has only recently won a T20 World Cup under Finch’s captaincy, and it’s hard to shake a captain’s position in any format of the game after a World Cup triumph unless the captain himself wants to step down.
While Aaron Finch has not scored a lot of runs in white-ball games in the last year or so, he is supposed to be in no mood to give up the white ball captaincy before the next ODI World Cup, which is scheduled in a couple of year’s time in India.

Pat Cummins has also backed Aaron Finch to continue in his role as the ODI and T20I skipper of Australia, as he believes there should be a white ball leader who lays his own roadmap for the progress of the white ball team from tournament to tournament, while he, as the test captain, will lays his own roadmap.
“It’s too much to ask of me. Aaron’s doing a fantastic job. It is best to have someone who can take white-ball teams in their own direction,” Cummins told the Australian Associated Press when asked if he was looking forward to be Australia’s white-ball captain as well.
