Viren Rasquinha expresses his disappointment with the media on the lack of Hockey coverage ahead of the World Cup
Hockey World Cup 2023 is around the corner. The tournament will take place in India from 13th to 29th January 2023 at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. The event will see 16 teams clashing with each other for the trophy.
Despite being the national sport of India, it’s fair to say that hockey hasn’t got the desired support and the players haven’t got enough backing from the fans. The entire focus has been on Cricket and football, with very few media outlets covering hockey.
Former Indian hockey skipper Viren Rasquinha was unhappy with mainstream media & top Indian newspapers not covering the sport despite the world cup being around the corner. Taking to his Twitter account, he said:
“Extremely disappointed with mainstream media & top Indian newspapers on lack of Hockey coverage. Hockey World Cup starts tomorrow. India is hosting it. Been barely any articles even on our players. We have brilliant hockey journalists. Give them some space please!!!”

It is not a cricket World Cup !The less paid hockey players perform better than the cricket team on major platforms but there is almost zero space for them ! Cricket is a sign of colonisation , hockey is of pride ! But the time table has turned and the rest is history ! https://t.co/yeqi1KwYVm
