Oman won the toss and decided to bowl first and did a commendable job at that. They didn’t gather wickets but certainly didn’t let the Netherlands score a huge score. Courtesy of Stephan’s 38-ball 43 and Ben Cooper‘s magnificent 28-ball 40, Netherlands got to 165/4. In reply, the Oman team fell apart like a stack of dominos except for Aqib Ilyas’ hard-hitting 48-ball 78. His knock helped Oman get real close to winning but ended up losing by 4 runs.
On the other hand, Ireland played their warm-up game against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi. Courtesy of Gareth Delany’s unbeaten 50-ball 88, Ireland marched to a gigantic total of 177. Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with 2/26 in his four-overs quota. However, the Bangladeshi batsmen fell apart to the likes of Mark Adair, Craig Young & Joshua Little who shared seven wickets amongst themselves out of the ten. With an outstanding display with the bat and ball, Ireland won the match by 33 runs.
It will be an exhilarating contest of bat & ball as both the team have players who perform with great intent. However, Ireland does seem to be the favourites to start off with a win.
