Most Expensive players for current teams in IPL history

Many records were broken on 18th February when the IPL Player Auction for the upcoming IPL season took place in Chennai. Some of the teams spent loads of money on overseas fast bowlers while a few spent on uncapped players. Over the years we have seen that the most expensive players come in these Mini Auctions. Some franchises have a lot of money and the requirement of players is less so they can spend big money on or 1-2 players.

Most of these franchises at some point have spent huge money on some players and most of them have come at a Mini Auction. Even in this Mini Auction, we saw some really high bids for fairly untested players. So, let’s have a look at the most expensive players for all the current eight teams in IPL history.

8. Mumbai Indians – Rohit Sharma – 9.2 CR

Mumbai Indians started their journey with skipper Rohit Sharma way back in 2011 when they bought him in the Mega Auction for 2 million dollars which got converted to 9.2 CR at that time.

7. Chennai Super Kings – Krishnappa Gowtham – 9.25 CR

Chennai Super Kings made their most expensive buy in the history of the IPL as they bought Krishnappa Gowtham in this Auction. They wanted an off-spinner who can bat a bit and they went all out for the Karnataka off-spinner. He also became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of the IPL.

6. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Manish Pandey – 11 CR

Sunrisers Hyderabad needed some Indian middle-order batsmen in the 2018 Mega Auction and so they spent big money on Manish Pandey as they bought him for 11 CR.

5. Punjab Kings – Jhye Richardson – 14 CR

Punjab Kings had a purse of more than 50 CR in a Mini Auction and they were going to bid heavily for some of the players. They needed fast bowlers and so they spent 14 CR for the Australian fast bowler – Jhye Richardson. He hasn’t played in the IPL before so it will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming IPL season.

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore – Kyle Jamieson – 15 CR

Another overseas fast bowler who hasn’t played in the IPL before got 15 CR in this IPL Auction as RCB went all out for the Kiwi pacer – Kyle Jamieson. RCB also spent 14.25 CR for Glenn Maxwell in this auction as they made two of their most expensive buys in the history of the IPL.

2. Delhi Capitals – Yuvraj Singh – 16 CR

Yuvraj Singh who had gone for 14 CR in the 2014 IPL Auction was back in the Auction in 2015. Royal Challengers Bangalore who had released him wanted to get him back for a cheaper price, but Delhi Capitals had other plans as they bought him for 16 CR.
