IPL 2020: Predicting RCB’s four overseas players for the opening game

IPL 2020 is just a few days away and every team is now starting to zero in on their first choice overseas players.

Not all the overseas players will be available for the teams from the first game itself, but out of the players who are available for selection, let’s predict who will be RCB’s 4 overseas players in their first game in IPL 2020.

Very few overseas players are available for selection for RCB

#1 AB de Villiers

The selection of AB de Villiers in the RCB XI is a no-brainer. Generally, when a retired cricketer turns up after a long gap without having played much competitive cricket over the last year or so, his selection in the XI is not quite certain.

But, that doesn’t apply to De Villiers. He has got so much quality as a T20 batsman and he has done so much for RCB in the past that he walks straight into the RCB XI at any stage. He is likely to bat at no. 3 because the captain Virat Kohli is expected to open the batting in the first game alongside the wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel.

#2 Chris Morris

Chris Morris has made his way to RCB with a really big price tag and there are massive expectations with him. Morris will not only be RCB’s premier death bowler, he will also be one of their finishers batting at no. 7.

Morris was not very consistent with either bat or ball playing for his previous franchise Delhi Capitals, but the dynamics was different there. At RCB, he will be under different circumstances and he might actually turn out to be RCB’s trump card this season.

#3 Isuru Udana

Isuru Udana might not have been a first choice overseas player for RCB if all the overseas players in the squad were available for selection, but since the English and the Australian players would be in quarantine at the time the first match gets underway, Udana might be picked by RCB in the XI.

Udana brings all-round quality to the table as he is a very skillful left arm medium pacer and he can also play some lusty hits down the order. Udana might be someone who can pair up with Morris in the death as he has got some really good variations in his repertoire.

#4 Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn is another player whose place is not quite certain in the RCB XI as an overseas player, but he is likely to get a go in the first game as a lot of other overseas options are unavailable for selection.

Steyn will probably take up the new ball duties for RCB alongside the young Indian sensation Navdeep Saini and will try and make sure he does enough with the ball in the first game to be able to retain his spot in the XI even when the other overseas players get available to be picked.

Steyn’s performance was pretty decent for RCB in the last IPL season, but he had played very few games last season and hadn’t featured since the start of the tournament.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
