“Australia plans like the team in Chak de India,” says former Pakistan leg spinner Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria liked the gameplan of the Australian in the T20 World Cup semifinal against Pakistan

The former Pakistan spinner leg spinner Danish Kaneria reckons that the Australian cricket team plans like the Indian women’s hockey team planned in the Bollywood movie “Chak de India”. Kaneria drew that resemblance in the sense that the Australian team pays its attention to the minute details of the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition, just like it has been shown in the movie Chak de India.

According to Danish Kaneria, the Aussies realize what’s the biggest strength of a particular opposition player might be, and they come up with a gameplan to counter that. Kaneria was probably talking about how the Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade tackled Shaheen Shah Afridi towards the end of the game.

Shaheen Afridi’s biggest strength while bowling in the death overs is his pinpoint yorkers, and he doesn’t really use too many other deliveries in the death. When he came on to bowl the penultimate over of the Australian innings, Wade knew all he was going to try was to get the ball in the blockhole.

With fine leg up, Wade came up with the plan of scooping the ball over the head of the keeper as fuller length was the perfect length for that and he did it twice successfully. In between that, Shaheen tried a slower ball and Wade dispatched that over midwicket as well. Kaneria was very impressed with Australia’s overall gameplan.

“The Australian team is like the one in the film, Chak De India. Like we saw in the movie, the Australian team analyses every player and every little detail related to them,” Danish Kaneria said on his youtube channel.

Danish Kaneria was also in awe of the brave effort of Mohammad Rizwan

Apart from applauding the Aussies for their brilliance, Danish Kaneria was also full of praise for the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan who turned up for Pakistan despite having to spend last 48 hours before the game in the ICU as he had suffered a chest infection.

Not only did Rizwan turn up, he scored a half-century for Pakistan as well and gave them an ideal base to go ballistic at the end.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
