5 overseas players the teams might target in IPL mid-season transfer

As the IPL mid-season transfer window is approaching, the overseas players, who are currently not getting playing opportunities at their respective parent franchises, would be willing to be traded to some other franchises where they can possibly get playing opportunities.

There have been quite a few overseas players, who despite having a decent stature in international cricket, have not been given that much of game time for various different reasons and the mid-season transfer window is really important for them.

Here are the 5 overseas players the teams might be targeting during the IPL mid-season transfer window of IPL 2020 –

#1 Lungi Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi has played just a couple of games for CSK so far and if he doesn’t feature against RCB tonight, he will be eligible for the IPL mid-season transfer. The recent twitter activities of the South African fast bowler suggest that he is probably not too happy with the way he has been handled by the CSK management and he wouldn’t mind a way out of the franchise.

However, it will be interesting to see if any other franchise comes calling for Ngidi because his performance in the two games that he played was not of a very high level.

#2 Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn was getting regular playing opportunities when he was a part of the KKR set-up, but this is his first season at Mumbai Indians and he has been warming the bench so far as MI already has a settled opening pair of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma.

However, a couple of franchises going around at the moment might do with an explosive overseas opener and Lynn might fit the bill as he is extremely powerful and can easily clear the huge grounds of UAE.

#3 Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner is probably the best left arm spinner in the world in white ball cricket, but he is not in CSK’s scheme of things because CSK has already got Ravindra Jadeja who is a pretty similar kind of player to Santner.

And, even if CSK needs another left arm spinner, they have got Sai Kishore waiting in the wings. So, the chances of Santner getting a game at CSK are not very high, but his all-round abilities can be very useful for the other teams.

#4 Alex Carey

Alex Carey is another player who must be expecting to play on a regular basis for Delhi capitals, but the first choice overseas players of Delhi have performed so well that an opportunity hasn’t popped up for Carey yet.

However, there is no doubt about the fact that the left-hander is a fantastic player and is already a proven performer in the BBL. The teams might approach Delhi Capitals with an enquiry for Carey.

#5 Mitchell McClenaghan

Mitchell McClenaghan has been a regular member of the Mumbai Indians line-up for many years now and has played vital roles in their title triumphs as well, but with the arrival of an international star like Trent Boult, McClenaghan has lost his spot in the Mumbai XI and has not played a single game in IPL 2020 yet.

The left-armer has got decent pace and can hit the deck really hard. Since it doesn’t seem as if Mumbai will need McClenaghan going ahead in the season, the other teams might want to trade McClenaghan in as he can be useful on abrasive pitches in the second half of the ongoing IPL season.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
