The former Australian batsman David Hussey, who is also the brother of the CSK legend Michael Hussey, has said that there might be a number of T20 leagues floating around in the world, but IPL is the tournament that every international player aspires to play in and they turn to the other T20 leagues only when their schedule allows.
According to David Hussey, who has been a consultant at Kolkata Knight Riders in the last few years, IPL is the biggest T20 tournament in the world in terms of star value and it has just gone bigger and bigger over the years. While the internationals have also gained from it, it has helped the Indian domestic talent the most.
There is no league in the world which has a salary cap of one fifth of the IPL franchises. The T20 leagues in SA and UAE, which have come into beings only recently, are the second biggest in the world in terms of the salary caps of the players and their salary cap per franchise is less than one fifth of the IPL.
From the salary point of view for a player, IPL stands stands far apart from any other league in the world and since it offers such high salaries, it attracts more than 90% of the international players around the world, apart from all the Indian international and domestic players.
David Hussey has been a part of IPL both as a player and as a coach
David Hussey, who is now working in the IPL as a consultant and a coach, has plied his trade in the tournament as a player as well, for Kolkata Knight Riders and also for Chennai Super Kings for a brief period of time.
David Hussey said, "IPL is still the best T20 league in the world". (To Sportstar).
