A historic match in the Indian Premier League history is currently underway, where new entrants Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are battling each other. GT captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first at Wankhede Stadium. Mohammed Shami blew away LSG in the powerplay.
Many fans felt that the Lucknow Super Giants are the favorites to win this match. But Gujarat Titans showed which team is the better one by reducing LSG to 36/4 in eight overs. Captain KL Rahul had a horrendous debut as he got out for a golden duck.
Mohammed Shami bowled a dream delivery outside off-stump which Rahul edged and wicket-keeper Matthew Wade took the catch. Then, Shami rattled the stumps of Rahul’s opening partner Quinton de Kock as LSG were down to 13/2 after 2.3 overs.
In the next over, Evin Lewis lost his wicket to Varun Aaron courtesy of a fantastic catch from Shubman Gill in the deep. Manish Pandey then returned to the dressing room as Mohammed Shami dismissed him as well.
Hardik Pandya was excellent as a captain as he decided to give three overs to an in-form Mohammed Shami. Generally, bowlers go for runs in the powerplay overs, but Shami returned with figures of 3/10. Just before IPL 2022, GT coach Ashish Nehra had said about Shami:
“We have a combination of everything and that is very important. Somebody like Shami… people have gone for 10 crore, 12 crore, 14 crore… but here is Shami. I have always believed in him. He is a wicket-taker. When you have somebody like Shami and his experience, you cannot ask for anything better.”
