Is Rohit Sharma really the new God of cricket? Well, Google certainly thinks so. Rohit Sharma made his debut for India back in the 2007 T20 World Cup and has not looked back ever since. He always had the talent but in the initial years, although he showed flashes of brilliance, he could not quite deliver the consistency and missed out on a berth in the Indian squad for the 2011 World Cup.

Rohit then gradually began to open the innings and showed that he had the potential to cause damage at the top of the order. After the likes of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were dropped from the Indian team, the Men in Blue went in with a new opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in the 2013 Champions Trophy. The duo fired all cylinders and helped India win that mega event.

When you google ‘the new God of cricket’, it shows images of Rohit Sharma

After being India’s regular opener in white-ball cricket, Rohit continued to pile on the runs and scored three double hundreds, becoming the only player in ODI history to do so. His staggering numbers as a white-ball opener have made him the dangerous player that he is today. Thus maybe, when you google the term ‘new god of cricket’, Google shows the images of Rohit Sharma. Maybe the baton has been passed from the original God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar to the new God Rohit Sharma.

After tasting success in white-ball cricket as an opener, Rohit Sharma made a fantastic start to life as a Test-match opener, scoring two centuries against South Africa last year. However, the real test begins now as Rohit is set to be a part of India’s Test team that will tour Australia for the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy. It will be interesting to see how things pan out for Rohit Sharma in overseas conditions.
