IPL 2020: Here is what happened whenever CSK played the opening game in the IPL

With the IPL 2020 schedule out now, it’s confirmed that CSK will play the opening game of the tournament against the defending champions Mumbai Indians on 19th of September. It’s the 6th time in the history of the IPL that CSK will feature in the opening game of the tournament.

Before this season, CSK featured in the opening game of IPL 2009, IPL 2011, IPL 2012, IPL 2018 and IPL 2019 and CSK’s performance in all these editions of IPL have formed a certain pattern. CSK fans will be very happy to know what that pattern is.

While in 2009, CSK qualified for the IPL playoffs, they won the IPL in 2011, they qualified for the playoffs in 2012, they won the IPL again in 2018 and they qualified for the playoffs in 2019. So if the pattern continues, CSK will be able to lift the IPL 2020.

It’s only a pattern and doesn’t have any cricketing technicality involved in it, but the fans, who keep an eye on all such numerologies and superstitious numeric patterns to get themselves some positive vibes, they will be happy to know that this particular pattern suggests CSK might lift their 4th IPL title.

CSK’s team combination has taken a major blow before the start of IPL 2020

Things are not looking too bright for CSK ahead of the start of IPL 2020 as their team combination has taken a major blow because of the withdrawal of two veteran cricketers Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh who could have proven to be the key members of the team in UAE conditions.

CSK, however, still has got some gritty cricketers who have got quite a lot of experience and if they win their first few games in the tournament, they might get on a roll.

CSK was written off before the start of IPL 2018 as well, as they didn’t have any charismatic young players in the squad and most of their players were over 30, but they still had a wonderful campaign and they ended up winning their third title that year. There is no reason why they can’t do it again.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
