Everybody was surprised at Eoin Morgan’s batting position last night in the game against Delhi Capitals as the England captain came out to bat at no. 6 for KKR despite the fact that KKR was up against a huge score of 227 and Morgan is one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball in the KKR squad.
However, the left-hander has now himself revealed why he batted lower down the order. According to Eoin Morgan, when the team management decided to promote Andre Russell to no. 4, it was automatic that everyone’s position in the batting order would go down as compared to their normal batting position and that was the reason why he batted at no. 6 and not no. 5 where he normally would have batted.
Batting position of Eoin Morgan has been a subject of debate
Morgan’s batting position has been a subject of much debate in IPL 2020 so far. The KKR fans are not happy about the fact that the KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik is consistently promoting himself up the order despite his lack of form and Morgan is not getting enough no. of deliveries to make a difference in the game.
A section of KKR fans is actually of the opinion that Karthik should be sacked from KKR captaincy midway through the season and Morgan should replace him as he is a World Cup-winning captain and has got an astute cricketing brain. Also, when asked why he did not bat up in the order, here is what the England skipper stated.
“No, I don’t think so. When you look at the batting lineup, there are a number of match-winners in that lineup,”
“It’s a very difficult one to sort of getting up the order particularly world-class batsman, allrounder Andre Russell. He’s an incredible striker of the ball. When he comes up the order, everybody shifts down a little bit,” He further added
When KKR had bought Morgan in the auction last year, it was believed they had bought him with the point of view of giving him the captaincy, but the franchise surprisingly announced that they had no intentions of removing Karthik as captain and Morgan had been roped in just as an explosive middle order batsman and not as a captain.
However, the way KKR is playing in the ongoing IPL 2020, the demands for Karthik’s removal as KKR skipper are getting louder and it’s very much possible going ahead in the season that Morgan takes over the leadership duties at KKR.
