IPL 2020: 5 Players who took the Social Media by Storm

IPL 2020 is moving thick and fast as half the action is over but there is half the action still to come. The competition is getting tight as there is a cluster of teams in the middle of the points table who would like to move up towards the top four. Since the IPL has started all the cricket fans are not only busy watching the biggest T20 tournament but most of the fans who didn’t have anything to Tweet or Post are back active on Social Media.

In today’s age, anything a cricket player does gets talked about on social media platforms. So, who are the players who have been talked about on Social Media? Let’s have a look at five players who took social media by storm.

5. Virat Kohli

The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper is always going to be talked about on Social Media because of his larger than life image. Whatever Kohli does is going to be a talking point for all the people on Social Media. But this time the talking point was his incredible innings of 90* off just 52 balls against Chennai Super Kings which took Social Media by storm.

Most of the cricket legends reacted to the innings and praised the Indian skipper for his special knock. Harbhajan Singh was supposed to play for CSK this season, but opted out due to personal reasons, tweeted – “Virat Kohli was the difference today..played an outstanding Inn @imKohli congratulations @RCBTweets We @ChennaiIPL will bounce back stronger”

When a player from the opposition praises you like that you know that you have played a match-winning knock.

4. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin was trending on Social Media for the same reason as last year. In 2019, R Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end before bowling the ball and that created a huge storm on Twitter. Ashwin tried it this year as well against Aaron Finch but then let him go in the game against RCB. But after the game, Ashwin tweeted saying that this is the first and final warning for this season and he is making it official and doesn’t want the blame on him later on. Many people tweeted their views on this tweet which was fun to read.

3. KL Rahul

KL Rahul is captaining an IPL side for the first time and it seems as if not a single thing is going right for them at the moment. KL Rahul is scoring a lot of runs but the questions which people are asking him are about his strike-rate. His batting strike-rate has dropped drastically from the last two editions of the IPL and as a result, he was asked the same question in a press conference in which he replied that strike-rate is overrated in T20s. That statement from KL Rahul got picked up by several people and as a result, he was trending on Twitter as well.

Harsha Bhogle who is known as the Voice of Cricket put up a tweet saying, “I just wonder if KL Rahul is trying too hard to bat like he is a leader; like he needs to bat through. He can do 132(69) when in flow. But outside of that he has averaged 42, which is great but at a SR of 118. He just needs to bat a little more freely, maybe”

2. Kedar Jadhav

Kedar Jadhav played a confusing knock against KKR when his team needed to score at 12 RPO. He scored 7 off 12 balls and was turning down singles which was surprising to watch. Jadhav took the Social Media by storm for the same reasons as his innings was baffling. Most of the cricket experts tweeted about this and most of the CSK fans expressed their anger. Jadhav was trolled on Social Media for his slow innings against KKR which resulted in another loss for CSK.

1. Rahul Tewatia

No, it is not MS Dhoni or Rohit Sharma, it is the new sensation in the IPL – Rahul Tewatia who has taken the Social Media to another level. His knock against KXIP where he struggled badly for his first 20 balls and then started smacking it to all the parts of the park might be the most talked-about innings in this year’s IPL. All the cricket fans who were trolling Tewatia in the first half of the innings got trolled in the second half of the knock. Rajasthan Royals tweeted from their official twitter account, “Hope 2020 does a Tewatia” Many people are hoping that 2020 does a Tewatia but till then we can enjoy Rahul Tewatia playing some more Tewatia knocks in this IPL.
