IPL 2020: 5 players who came as a replacement in this season

Every year before the IPL there are players who get injured and then franchises have to find replacements for them. Some times these replacements work wonders while some times they are not as good as the original player.

This year as well there have been replacements being called. In fact, this year due to the Pandemic some players are pulling out of the tournament even if they are fit because of their family’s safety.

Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons but CSK hasn’t announced any replacements for them. But the other franchises have announced the replacements for their players. Let’s have a look at five replacements up till now.

5. James Pattinson for Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga who bowled the last over of the last IPL pulled out of this year’s IPL due to personal reasons. Malinga has not only been a player for Mumbai Indians but also a mentor for the younger players.

He has been an absolute legend for Mumbai Indians as he is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL. James Pattinson the Australian pacer who had a decent BBL will replace him in the MI squad. He bowls quickly and has a heavy ball which can be difficult for the batsmen. MI has a lot of reserves in the overseas fast bowling department and so the change won’t really make much of a difference for Mumbai Indians.

4. Daniel Sams for Jason Roy

Jason Roy who has picked by the Delhi Capitals in this year’s auction was ruled out of the IPL due to an injury. Even though he is fit now he said he would take rest and didn’t want to be a part of a hectic IPL schedule at this moment.

Daniel Sams who is a left-arm pacer and can bat a bit has replaced him in the Delhi Capitals squad. This deal works perfectly for Delhi as they had too many openers in their squad and now, they have got a left-arm pacer. Sams was impressive in the BBL and the DC fans would be hoping he replicates the same form in the IPL.

3. Anrich Nortje for Chris Woakes

When the IPL was going to take place in April and May even at that time Woakes was ruled out of the IPL as he was going to prepare for the English season. Woakes once again pulled out of the IPL due to various reasons.

Anrich Nortje who is a tall pacer from South Africa will replace him in this year’s IPL. He bowls really quickly and will play alongside his teammate Kagiso Rabada. Woakes and Nortje are completely different bowlers but nonetheless he is a good addition for the DC team.

2. Adam Zampa for Kane Richardson

Adam Zampa, one Australian bowler will replace another Australian bowler – Kane Richardson in the RCB team. RCB had picked him for his good death bowling skills in the BBL but he has to stay back in Australia due to the birth of his child.

Adam Zampa has played in the IPL previously and the conditions in UAE will suit him. He is currently bowling well and RCB will be hoping that he continues that form.

1. Ali Khan for Harry Gurney

Ali Khan became the first player from the United States to be picked in the IPL. He will replace the left-armer Harry Gurney who was ruled out of the IPL a couple of weeks earlier.

Ali Khan was part of the CPL champions Trinbago Knight Riders who are also owned by the same owners who own Kolkata Knight Riders. The team management knows him well and he is a good pacer so he could be a great addition to the side. With Pat Cummins and Lockie Ferguson in the squad, he might not get a place in the XI but he is a good back-up option.
