Indian players set county championship alight, Pujara scores double hundred, Sundar and Saini get 5-fers

Out of favor Indian players are currently plying their trade in county championship as domestic season at home is over

While India is playing a whole lot of international cricket these days and players are being rested and rotated so that they remain fresh, some India internationals, who have fallen off the radar of the national selectors, are currently playing in the county championship in England to catch the eye of the selectors again.

Yesterday, three of India’s players, who represented India very recently at the international level, were in action in the county championship and all three put on big performances for their respective county clubs.

While Cheteshwar Pujara has been with Sussex right since the start of the ongoing county championship, Washington Sundar recently joined Lancashire, one of the most prestigious county cricket clubs in England, and Navdeep Saini joined Kent.

Both these players will not only play for their respective counties in the red ball competitions, they will also play for them in the Royal London Cup, which is the One Day cricket domestic tournament in England.

Navdeep Saini and Washington Sundar found their feet in the county championship straightaway

Navdeep Saini last played for India in test cricket on the tour of Australia in 2020 and after getting injured, he didn’t really get an opportunity to make a comeback to the test team with so many fast bowling options that India has.

But, Saini, while making his debut for Kent, got a 5-wicket haul straightaway and cranked up some good speeds as well. Washington Sundar also did the same for Lancashire and Sundar did it in the first innings itself, when the pitch was not even offering a lot of turn for the spinners.

As far as Pujara is concerned, he continued his routine business batting for Sussex. He has already piled on plenty of runs for them this season and the right-hander further enhanced his tally with a brilliant double hundred against Middlesex at Lord’s.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
