South Africa move ahead in the tournament
Opting to bat first, India was expected to put on a decent show with the willow. However, the same story continued. The openers were too cautious at the start and when the time came to attack, they lost wickets. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul fell early and even Virat Kohli, on Sunday, could not contribute match. Deepak Hooda, on his T20 World Cup debut, failed with his fact. In the end, Suryakumar Yadav had to, yet again, bring out his ‘A’ game. The Mumbai cricketer scored 68 runs from 40 balls to take India to a respectable total of 133.
With the ball, the Indians started well. While Arshdeep Singh picked two massive wickets, Mohammed Shami later removed Temba Bavuma. It seemed as if India would make a game out of it. However, experienced batters Aiden Markram and David Miller stepped up for the Proteas, especially after the drinks break. They took on most of the bowlers and with the target not great, things became easy for them. There were a few close moments at the end. However, the Proteas held their nerve and eventually won the game. With this victory, they are now favourites to reach the semi-final
