The Indian women’s cricket team will take on Australia in their first game of the Commonwealth games 2022 later today. This is the first time that women’s cricket will be played in the commonwealth games. There have been a few occasions in the past where men’s cricket has been a part of this event, but women’s cricket is making its appearance for the first time.
There couldn’t have been a stronger opponent to face for India than Australia in the very first game, because the Kangaroos are the world champions in both formats of white ball cricket. India, however, has got enough talent in their ranks to believe that they can make a winning start to their campaign under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur.
Venue and pitch conditions for first match of Commonwealth games
The match will be played at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground of Birmingham and will start at 4:30 pm IST. The pitch at Birmingham has recently suited the teams batting first, because it has been a bit two-paced and has had steep bounce on offer at times.
Six out of the last seven T20Is at this venue have been won by the teams batting first. When the Indian men’s team had played here on their recent tour of England, they had also won the second T20I by 49 runs by batting first and putting a reasonable score of 170 on the board.
Weather report
The weather in Birmingham might be slightly cloudy in patches today, but there is no threat of rain as such. Amid the cloudy weather and a bit of cool breeze, there might also be sunny spells for short intervals during the day and the weather conditions will be pleasant to play cricket.
Live Streaming and TV broadcast
While the TV broadcast of the game will be on Sony Sports network, it can also be watched on free dish by Indian fans, as the DD Sports channel will also be broadcasting it. The digital viewers can watch the game on Sony Liv app.
