Indian Cricket Team for the first time since 2016 has failed to finish as the number 1 ranked Test team at the end of the calendar year. They were overtaken by Australia, who ended 2022 as the No.1 ranked team in the longest format of the game.
India ended 2022 as the No.2 ranked Test side with 115 rating. They lost the series against South Africa 2-1 and rescheduled the fifth Test against England, which potentially ruled out their chance of ending the year as a no.1 ranked team for the seventh consecutive time. They defeated Sri Lanka at home and Bangladesh in their own backyard this year.
But during the period from 2016 to 2022 under the leadership of Virat Kohl, India was a dominant Test force and finished the year as the No.1 ranked side for 6 consecutive years. Not only did he lead from the front, but he also introduced an all-new fitness culture to the Indian cricket team which has seen the players of the team become fearless and helped the team reach new heights in world cricket.
