India jumps to the top of the ODI Super League table with an emphatic series win against South Africa

India has, so far, won 13 games in the ODI Super League which is more than any other team in the world

The Indian cricket team earlier today reached the top of the ODI Super League table by securing their 13th victory in 18 games in the ongoing ODI Super League cycle.

Since India are the host of the upcoming ODI World Cup next year, they have automatically qualified for the tournament, and their position in the Super League table doesn’t matter a lot in terms of their qualification, but it’s still significant that India has topped the table because they have been playing with their second string ODI side for quite a while.

Recently, it has been only against England that India has played with their full-strength ODI side. Once their T20 World Cup preparation kicked in, India played against West Indies with their second-string side under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan and won that series in the Caribbean by 3-0.

The men in blue then went to Zimbabwe with a second-string side again and clean swept Zimbabwe as well, before winning the ODI series against South Africa today by 2-1 without all their main players. All of India’s premier white ball players are currently in Australia for the T20 World Cup.

It’s just a testimony to the depth of resources that India has now got in white ball cricket that they can easily field two different international white ball teams at any given point in time and beat some of the strongest teams in the world.

India was positioned 5th in the ODI Super League table before the series decider against South Africa

Before the ODI series decider against South Africa today, India was at no. 5 in ODI super league with England, Australia, and Pakistan all ahead of India, but India’s 13th win in the league today helped them jump 4 places, as they have now gone straight to the top of the table.

India has played a total of 18 games so far in the super league and has won 13 out of them, with just 5 losses to go with it.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
