Former Pakistan cricket team captain Salman Butt recently compared the pitches on offer for the ongoing Indian Premier League season with the ones that were used for the ICC World Test Championship series between the Pakistan cricket team and the Australian cricket team last month.
The ICC World Test Championship series happened on flat wickets, where batters dominated the bowlers. Neither the fast bowlers nor the spin bowlers could achieve much success on those pitches, especially in the first two Test matches.
On the other side, in IPL 2022, the matches are happening at four venues, namely Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, Wankhede Stadium and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Although only four venues are being used, almost IPL matches have been exciting. Both batters and bowlers have been able to dominate on the surfaces.
The pitches have been amazing in this IPL season: Salman Butt
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, former Pakistan cricket team captain Salman Butt gave his honest opinion on the pitches offered for the IPL 2022 matches and the ICC World Test Championship series between the Pakistan cricket team and the Australian cricket team. Here’s what he had to say:
“The pitches have been amazing in this IPL. The ball is swinging, and at the same time, you are seeing high-scoring games as well. Here, the pitches we saw in the Test series between Pakistan and Australia… in comparison to those, I think all pitches would be better.”
Only 10 matches have happened in IPL 2022, and fans have already witnessed multiple close encounters. Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals are the only undefeated teams in the new season. Both franchises have won two matches each in the ongoing IPL season. It will be interesting to see if they can continue in the same vein the entire season and make it to the IPL 2022 playoffs.
