Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at BCCI selectors for not giving Sarfaraz Khan an opportunity in the team. He said that the batter is fit to play cricket and if management wants guys, they should go to a fashion show and select some models.
Sarfaraz Khan knocking on the doors of selectors
Sarfaraz Khan has been going through a rich vein of form in the Ranji Trophy for the last few seasons. He has been in the limelight for a while for his staggering performances. But the last few days haven’t been best for him as despite scoring consistently he failed to make the cut in the Indian side.
It was expected that he would be selected for the first two Tests against Australia. But this wasn’t the case as the team preferred Suryakumar Yadav ahead of him. However, despite being not selected he let his bat talk as he smashed another century in Ranji Trophy.
His latest century came against Delhi as he smashed his 13th FC ton. The right-hander has an average of 81.51 and has emerged as one of the best batters of the Ranji Trophy in the last couple of years with truckloads of runs under his belt. With the way he’s going, it’s fair to say that India cap is not far away as all he needs to do is keep performing like he’s doing.
Sunil Gavaskar slams BCCI selectors for not giving Sarfaraz Khan an opportunity in the team
There have been a few reports that Sarfaraz Khan wasn’t selected due to his fitness as selectors want him to reduce weight. However, this wasn’t something that amazed Sunil Gavaskar.
He slammed the selectors for not selecting the batter due to fitness and said that if they want to play fit players they should go to a fashion show and select some models.
Speaking to India Today, he said: “Sarfaraz Khan is fit to play cricket. If selectors want slim guys, they should go to a fashion show and select some models. Selection should be based on runs and not size”.
