The 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup will happen in Australia later this year. It was back in 2007 that the first T20 WC was held. Since then, multiple things have changed with respect to the tournament. In the upcoming edition, we could witness a number of records that could be broken. These records could be either regarding the history of T20Is or about the World Cup itself. On that note, here, we take a look at three 3 records that will be created in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
1) Most runs in T20 World Cup history – Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli
Currently, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are at the top of the list in the chart of highest run-scorers in T20I cricket. Martin Guptill is also in the fray. Amongst these three, one of them will end up at the top by the end of the 2022 T20 WC.
In the T20 WC history, Mahela Jayawardene has scored 1016 runs and is the highest run-getter. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made 847 and 845 runs respectively in the event. Hence, one of these two Indian cricketers might beat Jayawardene and go to the top later this year.
2) Most wickets in T20 World Cup history – Shakib Al Hasan
With 41 wickets, Shakib Al Hasan is the highest wicket-taker in T20 WC history. Even in T20Is, he is the highest wicket-taker with 122 scalps. The Bangladesh all-rounder could be playing in his last T20 World Cup and might break a few records in the 2022 T20 WC.
None of the current cricketers is close to Shakib in T20 WC. Here, Shakib could target crossing the 50 mark, which would automatically get him close to 150 T20I wickets, which could be the target before he calls time on his career.
3) Most fours in T20 World Cup history – Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli
The most fours in T20 WC history is one of the records that will be created in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Mahela Jayawardene is at the top of the list with 111 fours. While Rohit has 80 fours, Virat has 78 boundaries till now. Hence, both have a chance to beat the Sri Lankan.
In T20Is, Paul Stirling is the highest boundary scorer till now. He will also be in action at the T20 World Cup and hence, Rohit and Virat might find it hard to overtake him.
