Here’s why Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t get selected for the WTC final

Nicknamed as Bhuvi, the Indian Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to find his place for the World Test Championship final squad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against England and WTC final a few days back. The 3 of the most shocking names absent in the list were Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, and Prithvi Shaw.

Despite having the deadly combination of swing and medium pace, Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to feature into the squad even for the English conditions.

One of the primary reasons behind this is his fitness concern. Every now and then, the pacer lands himself in the injury scare. This has been the primary reason for the Indian selectors which led to his exit from the test squad.

A source was quoted as telling the news agency IANS in this regard, “The selectors think that he is still not fit to play long format, especially on such a long tour.”

The report even went on to continue that the presence of pacers like Siraj and Shardul can fill the place. Bhuvi last played the test match for India on January 24, 2018, against South Africa. And after that, he has been facing lots of ups and downs in his career. He has not been able to find his rhythm even in the shorter format of the game.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been facing rough patch in IPL too

After being ruled out of IPL 2020 due to injury mid-season, the pacer made his comeback in 2021. But the comeback wasn’t much effective as he just grabbed three wickets after bowling 114 deliveries in IPL 2021. With the likes of Bumrah, Shami, and Ishant, it would be interesting to see how India performs in English conditions. India will be playing the WTC finals against New Zealand on June 18.
