After suffering a heart-breaking defeat from the English side, the Indian team is currently at 4th position on the ICC World Test Championship standings with a win percentage of 52.08.
The series between India and England ended in a draw as the home side successfully chased the target of 378 runs following the mind-boggling partnership of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root in the 4th innings.
However, there is still a ray of hope for the Indian fans as their team can still qualify for the finals of the WTC. The final game of the WTC cycle 2021 to 2023 will be played in June 2023.
The main criteria for the Indian side to fulfill and reach the final is to win all of their remaining 6 matches which consist of 2 against Bangladesh and 4 test matches against the Australian side. This will take India’s win percentage to 68.05 if they win all of their matches without any over-rate problems.
Australia, South Africa, and Pakistan are the three sides that can emerge as the road blocker for India to play in ICC World Test Championship Final
For the Indian team to qualify, two teams out of Australia, South Africa and Pakistan need to finish with less than 68.05%.
Assuming they finish at 68%, Australia must lose at least four matches and draw one game of their remaining 10 matches, whereas, the South African side needs to suffer defeat in three games or can even settle for a draw in 5 matches. They have eight matches left.
Apart from this, the Pakistani side should win a maximum of five matches from their remaining quota of seven matches. Even though it seems like a lot of variables are in play, it would be extremely exciting to see how the World Test Championship’s leaderboard moves forward in the upcoming games.
It would be a dream come true moment for the Indian fans if their side manages to play in the finals as they had previously lost the 2021 WTC Final against the Kiwis.
