Here is why RCB will only play one home game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in May

BCCI has announced the schedule for IPL 2023. After three years, the competition will return to the home-and-away format. For fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore, though, they will have a packed schedule at home in May. Only one game will happen in May in Bengaluru. Here, we take a look at the exact reason why RCB will only play one home game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in May.

Chinnaswamy Stadium will host only one game in May

Karnataka will go for elections in 2023. The exact dates are yet to be about but most likely it will be during the IPL season that the state will go for elections. Hence, for obvious reasons, not many games have been scheduled in May in Bengaluru.

RCB’s first game will be against Mumbai Indians on 2nd April at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The franchise will finish the group stage with a game against Gujarat Titans at home.

RCB will have to do well at home

RCB’s recent returns at home have not been good. Also, in the last three seasons, the team did well when IPL did not happen in Bengaluru. Even the current squad, comprising players such as Harshal Patel are not exactly suited to the demands of this stadium.

Nevertheless, it will be a challenge for RCB to do well at home. The fans are used to solid batting shows but they have been rare in recent seasons. The other teams also respond well when the batting is easier at this venue. Most importantly, RCB will need answers with the ball. They would want Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood to pick early wickets while Harshal Patel will be expected to pull off his tricks at the death. Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the spin attack and the expectation is that he must emulate Yuzvendra Chahal at this stadium in Bengaluru.
