Mahela Jayawardene will step down as Mumbai Indians coach

The Sri Lankan has been promoted to the role of ‘Global Head of Performance, MI’. As part of this role, Mahela will look after the coaching and scouting of all three franchises owned by the group. In the past two seasons, Mumbai Indians did not reach the playoffs of IPL. The mega-auction happened on a decent note but could not produce instant success. Nevertheless, Mahela has been promoted and he will be involved in deciding on his replacement. On the other hand, Mark Boucher is reportedly in line to become the Head Coach of MI Cape Town in the SA20 League.

Mumbai Indians will now scout for replacement options for IPL 2023

It will be an intense race for Head Coaches in IPL 2023. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders have already named their new coaches for the next season. Punjab Kings are also in the race after parting with Anil Kumble. Now, Mumbai Indians also join this race.

Usually, Mumbai Indians go for established names in the industry. However, most of them are already associated with other franchises. Nevertheless, there are some top names such as Justin Langer who are still available on the market. It is likely that MI would make a statement signing in this regard.
