Here is the reason why jersey no. of Virat Kohli in international cricket is 18

Virat Kohli has never changed his jersey number and has always worn a jersey with 18 printed on the back of it

The former Indian captain Virat Kohli has had number 18 printed on the back of his jersey right since the start of his international career and people have often wondered why Virat specifically picked that number to be printed on the back of his jersey and what could be the reason behind it.

It’s not related to Virat’s birthday because he was born on 5th November, 1988. And it’s not that any famous player in the past, be it in cricket, football or any other sport, has worn jersey no. 18 that Virat got inspired by it. Actually, there is a very emotional reason why Virat Kohli chose no. 18 to be printed on the back of his jersey.

Virat Kohli‘s father had a huge role to play in Virat’s cricketing career when he was coming through the age group and junior level cricket. But, when Virat managed to get into the Ranji trophy squad of his state side Delhi, unfortunately his father passed away.

Virat Kohli fulfiled every single dream his father had for him

The date of Virat’s father’s demise was 18th November, 2006 and Virat Kohli’s age at that stage was 18 years. It was one of the saddest days of Virat’s life, but since that day, the number 18 holds a huge significance for him and this is the actual reason why he has 18 printed on the back of his jersey, whenever he is playing for India or for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL.

Virat’s father had a desire to see Virat play at the topmost level and excel at the game of cricket. And, Virat went on to fulfil every single dream that his father had for him. The 33-year old is now one of the greatest batsmen India has ever produced in its history and even though he has been out of form recently, he still has got the chance to break several record of India’s greatest ever batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
