The Asia Cup 2022 was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, but at the last minute, it was decided that tournament would be shifted from Sri Lanka to UAE and this decision was taken by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on the request of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) itself.
SLC had to make such a request to ACC because of the economic situation in Sri Lanka which was getting from bad to worse in the last few weeks and that had led to an unprecedented political turmoil in the country, with people directly entering the president’s house to protest.
The fuel prices and the inflation were sky high in Sri Lanka and although a new government has been put in place since then, the condition hasn’t changed drastically yet. The SLC felt since they were unsure about the stability in the country, it would be hard to organise a continental tournament featuring 5 international teams, as it would have to be met with a lot of logistic demands.
The hosting rights of Asia Cup 2022 remain with SLC
The ACC acknowledged the deteriorating condition in Sri Lanka and moved the Asia Cup

Not only does Sri Lanka need help from the global community in the other sectors of the economy at the moment, they need assistance to help sustain their cricketing set-up as well, which has also suffered recently, as their yearly T20 league LPL has been postponed after having gone on without any hindrance in its inaugural season.
If the shifting of Asia Cup 2022 to UAE would have meant that the hosting rights had been taken away from Sri Lanka, it would have been quite damaging for SLC, but ACC ensured that the hosting rights remained with them.
Indian team will leave for UAE for the Asia Cup on 20th August.
