Mumbai Indians handed a heavy defeat to RCB to boost their chances. While the five-time champions are now on their way to the playoffs, RCB will have a tough time in the next few matches. Here, we take a look at the qualification scenario for RCB after losing to Mumbai Indians for the playoffs of IPL 2023.
Qualification scenario for RCB after losing to Mumbai Indians
It is clear that RCB has to win all three remaining matches to have a chance of reaching the playoffs. This is assuming 16 points would be enough to get over the line. RCB also needs to ensure that their NRR is good so that they reach the Top 4.
At the moment, though, it looks really unlikely for RCB. Their next games will be against RR, GT & SRH. RR is equally desperate to win matches and will come hard against RCB. GT are the table toppers and form the toughest opponent. SRH has also got a lease of life after their last win and in the previous tournaments, too, this side has always been a thorn for RCB. Hence, Faf du Plessis and co may not have the best chance to reach the playoffs of IPL 2023.
A tough road ahead for RCB
RCB’s batting was short yet again on Tuesday. Firstly, after the brilliant platform laid out by Faf and Maxwell, the lower order could not build on it. This has been the problem for RCB for a while and this weakness was exposed again, despite MI not having a great bowling attack.
With the ball, RCB is not able to pick wickets in the powerplay. Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood are leaking runs, which is a problem for the side. Harshal Patel is not doing well and although Wanindu Hasaranga seems to be bowling well, he is also leaking runs at the same time.
