Australia has four major players not a part of the upcoming ICC mega event. While three are injury issues, Marcus Stoinis announced his retirement. In this article, we take a look at Australia’s likely playing XI for the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy.

Openers: Travis Head and Matt Short

Travis Head and Matt Short will be the openers in Australia’s likely playing XI for the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy. With Mitchell Marsh not there, Matt Short is likely to get a chance as an opener. He deserves a spot in the side.

Middle-Order: Steve Smith (C), Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis (WK)

The middle-order will wear the same look as earlier. There will be pressure on Steve Smith to take his Tets form to the ODI format and do well for the side. Josh Inglis will keep wickets.

All-Rounders in Australia’s playing XI for Champions Trophy: Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Hardie

Aaron Hardie is already a part of the final 15. Hence, he is the first choice to come into the playing XI instead of Marcus Stoinis. He will have a big role to play.

Bowlers: Sean Abbott*, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa

It is inevitable that Sean Abbott gets picked in the squad. He has the relevant experience to do well for the side. Nathan Ellis will be the key player for Australia in the death overs.
