Australia was bold and ruthless in the ODI World Cup. Some of the decisions they took could have actually put them in a tough situation. However, all of them clicked and Australia went on to win the championship. Yet, for the next series, they could drop some of the members of the squad. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three ODI World Cup winners whom Australia could drop for the next ODI series.

1) Marcus Stoinis

Even before the World Cup, Stoinis was not in great form in ODIs. This continued during the tournament, as well. Therefore, Stoinis could be dropped from the side.

Aaron Hardie and others could be targeting a place in the side. Stoinis is anyways not doing well and Cameron Green is anyway available in the squad. Stoinis might decide to focus on T20s and could even quit the ODI format.

2) Alex Carey

Alex Carey is one of the ODI World Cup winners whom Australia could drop for the next ODI series. The vice-captain in the 2019 ODI World Cup, Carey found game time difficult in the recent tournament. One of the major reasons is his inconsistent performance.

Australia might want to groom Josh Inglis for the white-ball formats. ODIs would be the ideal format to give Josh the responsibility as the first-choice keeper. Hence, Carey could be dropped.

3) Sean Abbott

Sean Abbott did not play a single game in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Hence, it would be unfair to him if he was to be dropped from the side.

That said, Abbott does not offer something different compared to the likes of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. Australia might want to groom someone like Spencer Johnson. If the likes of Jhye Richardson are back, they would also be preferred. Hence, Abbott could lose his spot.
