“He Has Got The Game On Bouncy Wickets”- Matthew Hayden Backs Rahul Tripathi To Succeed If Picked For T20 World Cup

Former Australian cricket team opener Matthew Hayden has showered praise on SunRisers Hyderabad’s rising star Rahul Tripathi after his excellent knock against the Mumbai Indians in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. The Orange Army tried a new opening pair last night as they dropped Kane Williamson down to number six, with new batter Priyam Garg opening the innings with Abhishek Sharma.

While Sharma had done well in the previous matches, he failed to make an impact in the match against the Mumbai Indians. After Sharma lost his wicket, Rahul Tripathi came to the middle and scored 76 runs off just 44 deliveries, hitting nine fours and three sixes. His innings turned the game in SRH’s favor as they finished with a solid score of 193 runs in their 20 overs.

Chasing 194 runs to win, the Mumbai Indians fell short by three runs. Tim David, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan played impressive knocks but none of them could score a half-century as Tripathi did for SunRisers Hyderabad. Eventually, that proved to be the difference between the two franchises.

Speaking on Star Sports after the match, Matthew Hayden gave his views on Rahul Tripathi and discussed whether he could achieve success in Australian conditions.

What impresses the most is his ability to play short-pitched bowling: Matthew Hayden praises Rahul Tripathi

Describing how Rahul Tripathi has impressed him with his strokeplay in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, Matthew Hayden said:

“He is a dangerous striker of the ball, he can hit both sides of the wicket. In particular, what impresses the most is his ability to play short-pitched bowling. I mean, getting to Australia, let’s just take the liberty to say that’s where it is, not saying he will be picked, but he has the game on bouncy wickets.”

Tripathi will be in action this Sunday again when the SunRisers Hyderabad take on the Punjab Kings.
