Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has picked his best captain between Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni. He said that he rates the former Indian skippers higher as he had to deal with more politics than the Australian great.
MS Dhoni is the most successful Indian captain
It’s fair to say that MS Dhoni is rated very highly in Indian Cricket. One of the main reasons behind that is his efforts to change the complexion of the team with his captaincy. took over the Indian captaincy from Sourav Ganguly in 2007 and asserted his authority right away by leading India to the T20 World Cup win.
Since then he never looked back and made Men in Blue dominate in all three formats of the game. Known for his cool and composed the keeper batter always used to back his players and whenever they committed a mistake, instead of bursting out at him, he used to go to them and make them understand.
His ice-cool nature was the main reason behind India winning all the major ICC trophies during his leadership tenure. His captaincy record speaks for itself. Regarded as the most successful Indian skipper he is often credited for taking Indian cricket to new heights. He’s the only Indian captain to have all the ICC trophies associated with a white ball in his kitty. He also took India to No.1 in the Test rankings.

On the other hand, Ricky Ponting is regarded as the best skipper to have lead the Australian cricket team. His aggressive captaincy was the highlight of his tenure as he led his side to two World Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2007, as well as two Champions Trophy titles.
Brad Hogg picks MS Dhoni over Ricky Pintong as the best captain
Brad Hogg lauded both Dhoni and Ponting as a skipper but he rated the former Indian skipper higher than the Australian great. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:
“Ricky Ponting had a wonderful team. MS Dhoni had a great team as well. For me, both did exceptionally well, both have got a fantastic records. You cannot separate them. I’d say that MS Dhoni probably had more politics to deal with in Indian cricket than what Ricky Ponting did. That probably puts Dhoni slightly in front of Ricky Ponting.”
