In what has been the latest development, 2016 IPL champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Aiden Markram as their captain for IPL 2023. The proteas batter was retained by the franchise. The league will start from 31st March and the Orange Army will kick start their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on 2nd April.
It’s fair to say that the Markram has been given the role following his impressive show in the inaugural SAT20 league. He led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the title win and displayed a staggering performance.
He was the main architect behind their success in the tournament was skipper Aiden Markram. Not only did he captain the side well but the all-rounder led from the front and it’s fair to say that he was the best batter in the tournament. With the bat, he scored 366 runs in 12 matches at an average of 33.27 and a strike rate of 127.97.
His best came in the semi-final when he smashed 100 off 58 balls to knock out Joburg Super Kings. With the ball, he was not behind as bagged 11 wickets with his off-spin at an average of 14.63 and an economy rate of 6.19.
With the kind of leadership he displayed in the SAT20, SRH would be hoping Markram to display a similar kind of show in the SRH and take them to the glory.
