India won the Test series against Bangladesh on Sunday. Although the second game went down to the wire, R Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer held their nerves to help India cross the line. Now, the discussion has started about the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. KL Rahul is not in good form and this is a problem for Team India. Here, we take a look at how former India opener Wasim Jaffer reacted to KL Rahul’s poor form.
KL Rahul’s poor form is a cause for concern
Rahul was the skipper for India in the Bangladesh series. As a batter, he could not make any contribution as his highest score was just 23. Considering his role as an opener was crucial, it was disappointing to see Rahul not make any impact on the scoreboard.
Speaking about the same on ESPN Cricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said, “KL Rahul has to go without a doubt, in my opinion. He had a pretty ordinary series as a batsman. If Rohit Sharma comes in, KL has to make a way.”
If Rohit Sharma is fit for the next Test series against Australia, he will surely occupy one place in the XI. Shubman Gill is in good form and therefore, Rahul might have to sit out.

India needs to explore other options
While Rahul is in poor form, Rohit has his own issues with fitness. Therefore, it is high time that India starts exploring options for the role of an opener. Even Shubman Gill could play in the middle order in the future and hence, India will have a vacancy at the top.
Some of the options India can consider include the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and even Prithvi Shaw. Both the Mumbai youngsters are aggressive batters and would help India adopt the modern batting style of Tests. It needs to be seen how the management would approach the next World Test Championship cycle.
