“GT becomes first team to defend the total in Ahmedabad this season” – Twitter erupts after Gujarat Titans defeat Mumbai Indians by 55 runs

The defending champions locked horns with five-time IPL champions in the 35th match of IPL 2023 at the world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Talking about the game, MI captain, Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Gujarat Titans to open the face of the blade first. Gujarat Titans posted a humongous total of 207/6 in their quota of 20 overs.

Notably, this is also Gujarat Titans’ highest-ever total in the history of the Indian Premier League. The likes of Shubman Gill (56), David Warner (46), Abhinav Manohar (42) and Rahul Tewatia (20) contributed to the team ever so well.

In response, Mumbai Indians totally switched off in the run-chase as there was hardly any intent shown by the batters. MI captain Rohit Sharma continued his dismal form with the bat as he scored 2 off 8 balls.

After his departure, Ishan Kishan didn’t look comfortable at all as he scored 13 off 21 balls. The openers failed to get off to a sparkling start to the game. As a result, Mumbai Indians literally struggled to chase down the total.

Cameron Green did provide some firepower at the start as he chipped in with 33 off 26 balls including three sixes to his name. Apart from him, Nehal Wadhera played superbly well as he scored runs at a rate of knots.
