The IPL 2022 season got underway last month with a match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Tonight, MS Dhoni finished things off in style against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.
17 runs were needed off the last six balls bowled by Jaydev Unadkat in the first El Clasico match of IPL 2022. Since Unadkat got the wicket of Dwaine Pretorius on the first ball of the over, many fans believed that the Chennai Super Kings would suffer their sixth defeat of the season.
However, MS Dhoni was in the middle till the end, and he ensured that the match is finished on the last ball, with the result in the favor of the Chennai Super Kings. Dwayne Bravo rotated the strike on the second ball as Dhoni faced Unadkat with 16 runs needed off the last four balls. Dhoni smashed 6, 4, 2, 4 to guide the Chennai-based franchise home on the last ball.
Speaking to the host broadcasters after losing his seventh consecutive match as captain in IPL 2022, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said:
“In the end, it was great fight from us. We were in the game. After batting not so well, the bowlers kept us in the game all through. In the end, we know how calming MS Dhoni can be and he took them home. It’s hard to put a finger on it. It’s just that we’re not applying ourselves.”
