Jhulan Goswami is one of the greatest players in cricket history. The Indian women’s cricket team star has proven herself as a match-winner for the country. Goswami has played international cricket for the Indian women’s ODI cricket team since 2002.
The fast bowler became the first woman in cricket history to complete 250 ODI wickets earlier today. Goswami accomplished the feat during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 match between the Indian women’s cricket team and the England women’s cricket team.
She had 249 wickets to her name prior to the match. The veteran fast bowler dismissed England women’s cricket team’s opening batter Tammy Beaumont LBW to touch the milestone. Speaking of her overall numbers in ODI cricket now, Jhulan has picked up 250 wickets in 199 ODIs, with her best figures being 6/31.
“It is an honour to play alongside Jhulan, she has worked very hard to get to where she has, 250 wickets is a phenomenal achievement,” Indian women’s cricket team skipper Mithali Raj said at the post-match presentation of the match against the England women’s cricket team.
While Goswami did pick up the wicket of Beaumont early, she could not save the Indian women’s cricket team from a defeat at the hands of the defending champions England. The defending champions did not have a memorable outing in the previous matches, but they defeated India Women by four wickets today.
The Indian batters could not get going against the England bowlers. Smriti Mandhana’s 35-run knock guided the team to a 134-run total. The team could not score big because of a collapse. Player of the Match Charlotte Dean picked up four wickets for the England women’s team.
